Parliamentary Administrative Committee approves Local Administration Law

13-08-2026 02:48 PM

Ammon News - The Parliamentary Administrative Committee on Thursday approved the Local Administration Law after concluding its discussions on the draft legislation.

During a press conference, the committee announced its most significant amendments to the bill.

The Lower House is expected to begin debating the law under the parliamentary dome on Sunday or Monday, pending a formal invitation from the Speaker.

Committee Chairman Khalifa Al-Deyyat said the committee revised the article concerning the municipal manager, assigning the responsibility for appointing the position to the Civil Service and Public Administration Authority based on competence and merit.

He added that the amendments ensure there is no encroachment on or reduction of the powers and responsibilities of the mayor.

Al-Deyyat noted that the committee increased municipalities’ share of allocated capital spending and placed all entities involved in municipal administration under accountability measures.

He explained that the primary goal of the Local Administration Law is to deliver tangible benefits to citizens, stressing that residents should not be required to pay fees for retaining walls, drainage systems, or road paving before those projects are carried out.
