Ammon News - The World Food Programme (WFP) said that assistance for Syrian refugees living in host communities in Jordan has remained suspended since April 2026 due to a severe funding shortage.

In its August report, the WFP stated that it provided food assistance to around 81,000 Syrian refugees living in camps during July, while support for refugees in host communities remained on hold.

According to the report, Syrian refugees in camps receive monthly assistance worth 15 Jordanian dinars per person, a reduced amount that covers only part of their food needs.

The report noted that the WFP requires $28.6 million over the next six months, from August 2026 through January 2027, to meet its operational needs in Jordan.

As of July 2026, the number of Syrian refugees registered with UNHCR in Jordan stood at 370,200, the report said.

The report also indicated that 210,308 Syrian refugees returned to Syria between December 2024 and August 2026.

In the area of school nutrition, the WFP needs $2.7 million to provide fortified date bars and healthy meals to approximately 510,000 vulnerable students during the 2026–2027 academic year.
