Justice Minister, UN Rights Chief discuss legal cooperation

Ammon News - Justice Minister Bassam Talhouni underlined that Jordan continues to strengthen its human rights and rule-of-law framework through political, economic, and administrative modernization.

According to a ministry statement issued Tuesday, Talhouni made the remarks during a meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk and his accompanying delegation.

The two sides reviewed existing areas of cooperation and discussed ways to further develop them to strengthen the justice system and institutionalize human rights through policies, legislation, and procedures.

Talhouni stressed the importance of continuing legal cooperation between Jordan and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

He noted Jordan’s progress in consolidating the rule of law, developing legislation, and improving the efficiency of the justice system as part of the country’s reform and modernization efforts.

The meeting also addressed issues of mutual interest and mechanisms for building on existing cooperation between Jordan and the UN office in the fields of human rights and the rule of law.
