Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi is set to meet United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at the Foreign Ministry headquarters on Monday.

The visit follows Guterres' visit to Syria, his first since assuming office and the first visit by a UN Secretary-General to Damascus since 2009.

Safadi and Guterres are expected to discuss bilateral cooperation, regional developments, and UN-led efforts to enhance security and stability across the region.

Guterres arrived in Jordan after holding talks in Damascus with Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa and Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani.

During the visit, he said Syria has a "moment of opportunity" not only to recover from years of conflict but also to build a more stable, inclusive, and prosperous future for all Syrians. He urged the international community to support the country during its transitional phase.

The UN chief also stressed the importance of respecting Syria's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, describing Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty as "unacceptable and must stop." He further called for increased international support for Syria's recovery and reconstruction efforts.
