Ammon News - Under Royal Patronage, the 40th edition of the Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts opens on Wednesday.

The festival administration said in a statement on Tuesday that more than 220 artistic and cultural events will begin on Thursday and continue until August 2.

The opening ceremony will be held at the Northern Theater in the ancient city of Jerash. Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Festival’s Higher Committee, Mustafa Rawashdeh, will deliver the official address, while Mohammad Bani Yaseen, head of the Greater Jerash Municipality Committee, will deliver a speech on behalf of the local community.

To mark the occasion, the festival will present a specially produced opening performance celebrating its 40th anniversary. The show will trace the evolution of Jordanian music, beginning with folk and traditional heritage, moving through independent and alternative music, and culminating in contemporary experiences that have brought the Jordanian voice to Arab and international stages.

The performance combines live music, an orchestra, a choir, visual projections, and advanced lighting techniques to present an artistic narrative of Jordanian creativity over four decades.

The show consists of five consecutive chapters, beginning with memory and roots, then exploring the development of Jordanian music and its regional and global presence, before concluding with the 40th anniversary song and the lighting of the Jerash Festival flame — an annual tradition symbolizing the continuity of the festival’s cultural mission and its role in strengthening Jordan’s place on the Arab cultural map.

The performance features a distinguished lineup of Jordanian artists representing different stages of the country's musical evolution, led by "The Voice of Jordan" Omar Al-Abdallat, alongside Hussein Al-Salman, Aziz Maraka, Nedaa Shrara, and Issam Alnajjar.
