Ammon News - A total of 615 refugees departed Jordan for resettlement countries during the first half of 2026, while 513 new resettlement applications were submitted during the same period, according to data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

According to UNHCR data for June 2026, those who departed included 426 Syrian refugees and 189 refugees of other nationalities. Meanwhile, new resettlement applications involved 116 Syrian refugees and 397 refugees from other nationalities.

The data showed that the total number of resettlement applications submitted by UNHCR from Jordan since 2014 reached 120,064, while the total number of refugees who have departed the Kingdom for resettlement countries during the same period reached 79,239.

UNHCR said resettlement is one of the durable solutions for refugees, involving the transfer of refugees from their country of asylum to another country that has agreed to admit them and grant them permanent residency. The agency emphasized that resettlement is also a key protection tool and reflects international responsibility-sharing and solidarity with Jordan in hosting refugees.

The agency added that it identifies refugees most in need of protection, assesses their eligibility for resettlement, refers their cases to receiving countries, supports selection missions organized by those countries, and facilitates departure arrangements within available quotas.

According to the data, around 32,000 refugees in Jordan are in need of resettlement, representing about 7% of the Kingdom’s total refugee population. However, limited global resettlement places mean that less than 1% of them are likely to receive a resettlement opportunity.

The data indicated that legal and physical protection needs accounted for 49% of resettlement requests, followed by survivors of violence or torture (30%), women and girls at risk (12%), children and adolescents at risk (6%), medical needs (2%), and family reunification cases (0.4%).
