Ammon News - The Public Security Directorate (PSD) media spokesperson said that dozens of complaints had been received by the Cybercrime Unit from citizens who were victims of online fraud after contacting fake pages that advertised mobile phones for sale in installments at attractive prices.
The spokesperson explained that investigations revealed that unknown cyber fraudsters had created numerous fake pages and promoted advertisements offering mobile phones on installment plans. After victims contacted these pages and agreed to purchase a phone, the scammers requested an electronic transfer to a digital wallet. Once the payment was received, the fraudsters disappeared and stopped responding to calls and messages.
The spokesperson added that through technical investigations and tracking financial transfers, authorities identified the main suspect involved in the fraud cases, arrested him, and launched an investigation.
The Cybercrime Unit urged the public not to engage with unverified pages or pages impersonating mobile phone retailers that claim to sell phones or other products on installment plans. Citizens were also advised not to transfer any money before receiving the agreed goods and to follow safe buying and selling practices to avoid falling victim to online fraud.
