Ammon News - The Deputy Chairman of the Jordan Football Association and former minister, Marwan Juma, confirmed that the circulated clip in which he said "Who even used to know Jordan?" was taken out of context.
Speaking to "Ammon News", Juma said he was referring during the interview to an earlier period in the 1980s, a fact that is well known.
He added that Jordanians who studied abroad in that era, particularly in American universities, often had to explain where Jordan was or refer to the late King Hussein as a way of identifying the country.
He explained that at that time, Jordan was not widely known among Americans, but over time—through the efforts led by the late King Hussein, and later King Abdullah II, along with global openness and Jordan’s achievements—the country became well known internationally.
Juma further noted that football and the national team’s qualification for the World Cup also contributed positively to Jordan’s international reputation.
He stressed that this was what he meant in the interview, clarifying that he did not say Jordan became known only because of the national team’s World Cup qualification.
