PSD marks World Drug Day

29-06-2026 03:10 PM

Ammon News - Public Security Director Major General Obaidullah Ma'ayta on Monday led a celebration on International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, also known as World Drug Day, under the slogan "With Awareness... We Break the Cycle." The message emphasizes that community awareness is the first line of defense in addressing the scourge of drugs and protecting society from its evils.

In an address on behalf of the Public Security Directorate (PSD), Head of the Anti-Narcotics Department, Brig. Gen. Hassan Qudah, called drugs "one of the most serious challenges threatening the security and stability of society, and the future of its youth." The PSD is carrying out a comprehensive national strategy, based on proactive security strikes against trafficking, smuggling, and distribution networks, in parallel with promoting prevention, awareness, and early intervention, based on the belief the true confrontation begins with awareness and ends with protecting individuals, he said.

This year's campaign slogan, he pointed out, carries a clear message; breaking the cycle entirely by addressing all stages of drug-related crime, from production and smuggling to distribution and finally, preventing drug use.

Today's celebration marks the launch of a comprehensive national awareness and media campaign to be implemented across the Kingdom in partnership with national institutions, media outlets, and stakeholders, he said.

The event on World Drug Day, observed annually on June 26, included the screening of a dramatic awareness film inspired by a true story, depicting the devastating effects of drugs on individuals, families, and society. It highlighted early awareness and the role of families, educational institutions, and national organizations in protecting youth.

It also featured workshops that tackled the reality of the drug problem, the continuous evolution of smuggling and distribution methods, and the legal, health, religious, and media aspects to combat it.
