Ammon News - A live frog was discovered in a lettuce bag purchased from a grocery store in Australia.
Farmer Rhys Smoker found the frog hopping inside an unopened lettuce bag bought from a groceries shop in in Esperance, Australia, on Saturday, May 16, while preparing a steak and salad dinner for his housemates, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and Associated Press reported.
"He's like, 'Bro, I've got a lettuce, like a frog in my lettuce,"Smoker’s housemate Emma Jones told ABC. "It's quite out of the ordinary..."
"It's quite a decent-sized frog for a big adventure," Smoker's other housemate and Jones' boyfriend, Billy Le Pine, said. "...The bag of lettuce does have holes in it to keep the produce fresh, so he had a snack and some air on his way over."
In a video posted by the couple online, the frog is seen crawling on top of the lettuce inside the sealed bag, seemingly unharmed.
Many viewers didn’t believe the sight themselves after seeing the footage. “[We got] so much feedback about it being AI,” Jones told ABC.
Pine said he reckons the frog came over “from the east,” as he said most produce in Esperance comes from eastern Australia, per the outlet.
The housemates released the frog — whom they named Greg — safely into a dam near their residence, per ABC.
"We got him some fresh air, and then he released it with the lettuce," said Jones. "We live close to a dam … [he] had a little swim around with his lettuce … and away he hopped."
"I'm just glad Greg is back in his natural habitat,” added Pine.
The groceries shop said in a statement to ABC that the incident was an “isolated event with no other reported cases.”
