Ammon News - The number of workers employed in Jordan’s tourism sector reached 59,664 employees as of March 2026, according to data from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
Analysis of the data shows a slight decline of 0.6% in the number of workers compared with the end of 2025, when total employment in the sector stood at approximately 60,068 workers.
According to the figures, employees in tourist restaurants and hotels make up the largest share of the sector’s workforce, accounting for 40.7% and 37% respectively.
The number of employees working in tourist restaurants reached 24,294, while hotel employees totaled 22,184 out of the overall 59,664 workers.
Regarding the gender distribution within the tourism workforce, the data shows that men account for the majority, with 51,015 employees representing 85.5% of the workforce, while women total 8,649 employees, representing 14.5%.
The figures also indicate that tourism sector employees are distributed across 3,883 establishments, including restaurants, hotels, tourism and travel offices, car rental companies, and other businesses.
The Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) had previously reported a 27.2% decline in tourism revenues during April 2026, falling to $517.1 million, mainly due to lower tourism income from all nationalities.
As a result, tourism revenues during the first four months of 2026 declined by 10.4% to $2.17 billion, compared with a 15.3% increase during the same period in 2025, when revenues reached $2.43 billion.
The data also shows declines in tourism income during the first four months of 2026 from Jordanian expatriates by 19.5%, from American visitors by 17.1%, European visitors by 13.1%, Arab visitors by 3.3%, and other nationalities by 13.2%.
In addition, tourism spending by Jordanians and residents traveling abroad fell by 12.9% during the first four months of 2026 to $562.6 million. In April 2026 alone, spending dropped by 33.7%, reaching $103 million.
Consequently, net tourism income during the first four months of 2026 declined by 9.5% to $1.61 billion.
