Ammon News - A project to connect off-grid diesel-powered facilities to the national electricity network using solar energy systems, with a total investment of approximately JD784,000, was unveiled on Tuesday, in line with Royal directives to expand renewable energy utilization and improve energy efficiency.

The project spans five locations, al-Ashqaf, al-Karama, Bayir, Shubayka, and Tuba, covering 11 security facilities serving external patrol, civil defense, and desert units. It incorporates nine photovoltaic systems with a combined installed capacity of 675 kilowatts peak (kWp), supported by advanced battery energy storage systems to ensure reliable electricity supply in remote areas.

It is being implemented and supervised by a joint technical committee comprising specialized engineers from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Public Security Directorate under the Rural Electrification Program.

According to a statement, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, said the initiative is the most advanced of its kind implemented within security institutions in the Kingdom. He added that it aligns with the Ministry’s strategy to increase reliance on domestic energy resources and strengthen Jordan’s position in renewable energy deployment.

Director of Public Security Major General Obaidullah Maaytah said the project reflects effective institutional coordination and addresses longstanding challenges in supplying electricity to remote security centers and stations, replacing conventional diesel generators with sustainable alternatives.

He pointed out that the transition will enhance operational efficiency, improve service delivery, and reduce energy-related expenditures in line with the operational requirements of field units. Petra
