Ammon News - Gas supplied to Syria via Jordan has lit up the capital, Damascus, for 48 consecutive hours without interruption for the first time in more than 10 years, according to Syrian activists.
Residents of Damascus expressed their happiness at seeing the entire city illuminated without outages, sharing videos on social media showing the capital brightly lit at night.
Jordan supplies gas to Syria
Jordan began supplying gas to Syria in January 2026 under an agreement signed by the two neighboring countries for the sale and purchase of gas via the Jordanian territory, whereby the Kingdom provides Syria with around 4 million cubic meters of natural gas daily.
However, gas supplies via Jordanian territory were cut off in March due to the US-Israeli war on Iran, which disrupted pipeline flows to Jordan and forced the Kingdom to rely on alternative resources.
Jordan resumed supplying Syria with natural gas starting Sunday, April 12, 2026, resulting in uninterrupted electricity supply to the Syrian capital.
