Cold, rainy Sunday across Kingdom as temperatures set to rise midweek

15-03-2026 08:22 AM

Ammon News - A cold and wet weather system is affecting the country on Sunday, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures and intermittent rainfall in several regions as a low-pressure system centered over Cyprus moves across the eastern Mediterranean, the Jordan Meteorological Department said.

Conditions are expected to be cold across most regions, with skies ranging from partly cloudy to overcast. Rain is forecast to fall at intervals in northern and central areas, with showers in the north potentially becoming heavy at times during the morning hours.

Limited parts of eastern and southwestern regions may also experience light rain showers, while active westerly winds are expected to prevail across the country.

The Meteorological Department warned of reduced visibility caused by fog and low clouds, particularly in mountainous areas. It also cautioned that blowing dust may reduce visibility in desert regions and warned motorists of slippery roads in areas experiencing rainfall.

Weather conditions on Monday are expected to remain relatively cold across most regions, with partly cloudy to occasionally overcast skies, particularly in northern areas. The Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba will see relatively warmer conditions. There remains a slight chance of light morning showers in northern and central parts of the country, while moderate westerly winds may become active at times.

Temperatures are forecast to rise noticeably on Tuesday, bringing sunny and mild weather across most regions and warmer conditions in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba. Winds are expected to be light southeasterly.

Another increase in temperatures is expected on Wednesday, with mild conditions prevailing in most regions and warm weather in low-lying areas. Clouds will appear at various altitudes, and by evening the country may begin to experience unstable weather conditions, with rain showers developing initially in southern areas. Southeasterly winds are expected to become active, raising dust in desert regions.

Temperatures in eastern Amman on Sunday are forecast to range between 13 C and 7 C, compared with 11 C and 5 C in western Amman. In Aqaba, temperatures are expected to reach 24 C during the day and fall to around 13 C at night. Petra
