Ammon News - The Eastern Military Zone early Wednesday foiled five attempts to smuggle a "large" quantity of narcotics using electronically guided balloons, which were launched simultaneously to distract border guard troops and evade surveillance.
Border guard units, under close monitoring and precise tracking operation, detected all attempts at different locations.
Two attempts were thwarted at the launch site, while three other balloons were intercepted and their payloads seized inside Jordanian territory.
The seized substances were referred to the competent authorities, in coordination with security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, to take the necessary legal measures.
In a statement, Jordan Armed Forces (JAF)- Arab Army affirmed its continued effort to deploy all capabilities to prevent smuggling and infiltration attempts and confront whoever seeks to undermine national security and stability.
