Ammon News - Israeli police announced the arrest of two suspects on Sunday at the Allenby Bridge crossing on the Palestinian side, who were carrying 12 million shekels and foreign currency.
According to Channel 12, police seized bags containing 12 million shekels (approximately $3.75 million) and foreign currency. The money is suspected to have been intended to finance terrorist organizations.
The funds were likely intended to finance Palestinian activities in the West Bank, the Times of Israel reported.
According to a joint statement from the Border Police and the Israeli police, forces had been preparing for the arrest for about a month, after receiving intelligence from the Central Command and Military Intelligence Directorate indicating that the two men were planning to cross the border with this unusually large sum of money.
"The forces were on high alert beforehand, and in operational cooperation with inspectors at the Allenby/King Hussein Bridge crossing, a military force from the Wadi Brigade, and customs inspectors, the suspects were apprehended and taken for further investigation. After the investigation concluded, they were detained and imprisoned, the Border Police added."
During a search of the suspects' luggage, the forces found the money, which was seized for further investigation.
