Cold weather on Monday precedes slight increases in temperatures

19-01-2026 08:14 AM

Ammon News - Cold conditions will continue to grip the Kingdom on Monday, with cloudy skies and spotty morning rain in western areas, while forecasts point to a gradual warming trend beginning on Wednesday.

Light rain may fall during the morning hours in western regions before conditions turn drier, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department. Moderate northwesterly winds will blow across most areas, becoming active at times.

The department warned of low visibility during the morning due to fog over high mountain areas, as well as parts of the desert and plains. It also cautioned against frost late at night over high elevations and some open areas, in addition to slippery roads in locations affected by rainfall.

By Tuesday, weather conditions stabilize, though cold temperatures persist across most regions. High clouds are expected, with moderate northeasterly winds.

Attention then turns to midweek, as temperatures begin to rise on Wednesday. While most regions remain cold, conditions will become milder in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Clouds will increase at mid and high levels, and southeasterly winds are expected to pick up during the afternoon, stirring dust in desert areas.

A more noticeable rise in temperatures is forecast for Thursday, bringing relatively cold conditions to most regions and continued mild weather in low-lying areas. Clouds will persist, and southeasterly winds may become active at times.

Temperatures on Monday range between 11 and 3 degrees Celsius in eastern Amman and between 9 and 1 degree in western Amman. The northern highlands record 7 to 0 degrees, while the Sharah highlands range between 6 and minus 1 degree.

Desert areas see temperatures of 14 to 0 degrees, plains 11 to 2 degrees, and the northern Jordan Valley 16 to 6 degrees. In the south, the Jordan Valley records 20 to 8 degrees, while the Dead Sea and Aqaba range between 19 to 10 degrees and 21 to 9 degrees Celsius, respectively. Petra
