Ammon News - The Cabinet has officially rescinded its November 2021 directive to dissolve the High Health Council (HHC).

The move, announced during Sunday’s session, effectively halts the legislative process to repeal Law No. 9 of 1999 and signals a return to a unified, multi-sectoral approach to national health policy.

Reporting on the decision, Petra noted that the reversal is intended to centralize health policy-making and enhance institutional oversight.

By reactivating the Council, the government aims to create a more resilient planning framework capable of addressing long-term systemic challenges and streamlining national health responses. This decision aligns with broader government efforts to modernize the health sector and elevate the efficiency of national planning.

Minister of Health and HHC Chairman, Ibrahim Al-Badour, characterized the decision as a turning point in Jordan’s healthcare reform agenda. He emphasized that the Council will once again serve as the supreme national authority responsible for drafting health strategies, ensuring seamless integration between the public and private sectors.

He noted that the next phase will be defined by organized, institutional work based on scientific evidence and data, which is expected to improve the quality of services provided to citizens.

A primary objective for the reactivated Council is the rationalization of healthcare spending and the optimization of resource use through improved coordination.

Al-Badour further explained that the Council will support national decision-making by focusing on strategic priorities and specialized technical committees.

The Ministry of Health plans to engage more deeply with professional and academic organizations to empower the Council, ensuring it functions as a cornerstone of the national health system according to global best practices.
