Ammon News - A resident physician working in the emergency department at King Abdullah University Hospital in Irbid was assaulted on Tuesday morning by a patient’s companion while she was performing her duties.
Speaking to Ammon News, the doctor’s husband said the incident occurred at around 8:30 a.m., when the companion—who claimed the patient was his wife—insisted on receiving medical care without completing the official registration process or documenting the patient’s details. The doctor informed him that treatment would be provided, but that registering the patient at reception was a standard and necessary procedure.
According to the account, while the doctor was following protocol, she was suddenly struck in the face by the companion, who attempted to force her to treat the patient without registration. When she warned him of the legal consequences, he tried to assault her again, but was restrained by medical and nursing staff at the scene.
The police were at the scene and began taking legal action.
The doctor’s husband added that hospital management has initiated legal proceedings to protect her rights and reputation. He also confirmed that she was placed under medical observation for 24 hours due to abdominal pain, noting that she is pregnant.
