Ammon News - Minister of Culture Mustafa Rawashdeh announced on Wednesday the inscription of "The Ancient Olive Tree - Al-Mehras" on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, which is a national achievement.
The tree was nominated for its historical, economic, social, and cultural value. It is the origin of other olive varieties, its deep roots reflecting the region’s history, and it is used in traditional and medicinal industries. Harvesting seasons are also associated with popular rituals and practices, according to the minister.
Rawashdeh emphasized that the Al-Mehras olive tree is an integral part of Jordan’s intangible heritage, linked to festivals, folk songs, and the daily lives of Jordanians. He expressed his gratitude to the institutions and experts who contributed to the successful nomination.
