Lower House Speaker pledges cooperation with National Council for Family Affairs

19-11-2025 05:21 PM

Ammon News - Lower House Speaker Mazen Qadi on Wednesday welcomed National Council for Family Affairs Secretary-General Mohammad Miqdadi to discuss ways of supporting organizations working on family and community issues and protecting Jordanian social values.

Qadi pledged cooperation with the council on various matters, including those related to the elderly, protection from domestic violence, and childhood.

The legislature is open to any proposals on legislation or initiatives to "correct societal misconceptions" and improve the quality of services in family-related domains, Qadi pledged.

Miqdadi said the council is a national institution proposing policies and legislation and preparing for specialized studies and research on the elderly, protection from domestic violence, and childhood.

The council, in partnership with various national bodies, has come up with national policies, including the Third National Strategy for the Elderly and implementation plan, which recently won the cabinet's endorsement. The strategy focuses on improving the level of services to the elderly, particularly recreational services, day care, and healthcare, he added.

The Council is currently drawing up the National Policy for Child Welfare that fully aligns with the economic modernization vision. It addresses women's employment matters and offers a family- and child-friendly environment, creating proper conditions for empowering women and enhancing the family's role in social development, added Miqdadi.
