Ammon News - The agreement for a cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip entered into force on Thursday afternoon, marking the commencement of the first phase of the peace plan. This initial phase entails a complete ceasefire and the start of the process for the release of detainees, according to reports from Al-Qahera News TV and Israeli media outlets.
The comprehensive ceasefire agreement, announced just before dawn on Thursday, was reached after more than two years since the war began. The deal is slated to be formally signed in Egypt later on Thursday, as confirmed by a source familiar with the negotiations.
This declaration follows days of intense, indirect talks held discreetly in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. Mediators from the US, Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar participated in the negotiations, aiming to halt the devastating, two-year-long war on the besieged Strip.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation has committed numerous acts of genocide in the Gaza Strip. These actions have resulted in the tragic martyrdom of over 67,183 people and the injury of 169,841 others, the majority of whom are children and women. Furthermore, a famine has claimed the lives of 460 Palestinians, including 154 children.
