Statistics Department, World Bank Discuss Cooperation

Ammon News - Department of Jordan Statistics (DoS) Director General Haidar Fraihat Monday discussed with World Bank Regional Practice Director Sandeep Mahajan cooperation in developing official statistics and strengthening the department’s institutional capacity.

Fraihat stressed the government’s commitment to advancing the national statistical system in line with national priorities and international standards. He highlighted recent achievements, including approval of the new National Statistics Law, launch of the National Strategy for Statistics and Development, and expanded access to indicators through the DoS’s electronic portal and the National Interactive Data Center.

He stressed the department’s role in providing accurate data for decision-makers and emphasized transparency, data availability, and ongoing cooperation with the World Bank in various fields.

Mahajan commended DoS’s efforts in modernization and digital transformation, reaffirming World Bank support for statistical development projects, including the National Interactive Data Center, expected to launch in early 2026, and future analytical capacity of DoS.

The meeting also reviewed two analytical studies on Jordan’s labor market and gender statistics, underlining their importance in shaping future policies.

Both sides agreed to enhance coordination in implementing current and upcoming projects to modernize statistical infrastructure and expand data utilization for development planning.
