Boutchichiyya Zawiya in Madagh marks 40th night of Sheikh Sidi Jamal Eddine’s Passing

25-09-2025 12:07 PM

Ammon News - In a majestic spiritual atmosphere, the central Qadiriyya Boutchichiyya Zawiya in Madagh hosted, on the evening of Saturday, September 20, 2025, the commemoration of the fortieth night since the passing of Sheikh Sidi Jamal Eddine, master of the Boutchichiyya path.

The gathering brought together a large and diverse audience of disciples, representatives, and guides of the path from Morocco and abroad, alongside intellectuals, scholars, and leading professionals. Members of the Moroccan diaspora in Europe were present, as well as Europeans who have embraced the Boutchichiyya Sufi way as a means of spiritual elevation and purity in human relations.

Completion of Foundational Texts and Illumination through Remembrance

The night was marked by the completion of the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, Sahih al-Bukhari by Imam al-Bukhari, al-Shifa by Qadi Iyad, Dala’il al-Khayrat by Imam al-Jazuli, and Dhakhira al-Muhtaj, a collection of prayers upon the Prophet, the Bearer of the Banner and the Crown.

These recitations were accompanied by litanies, invocations, and comprehensive supplications—reflecting the Zawiya’s mission to unite knowledge with remembrance, and to cultivate hearts in humility and devotion, far from heedlessness and the whims of the ego.

The Presence of Sheikh Sidi Mouad: Continuity and Succession

The presence of Sheikh Sidi Mouad, son of Sheikh Jamal Eddine, was a pivotal moment of the commemoration. Disciples gathered around him, renewing their covenant with him as the natural continuation of the path of his late father and his grandfather, the gnostic of God, Sidi Hamza.

They affirmed that Sheikh Sidi Mouad is no stranger to the path’s educational life, but rather its helmsman—just as Sidi Hamza had described him—whom he had prepared to carry the torch.

During his father’s lifetime, he oversaw the path’s affairs across the Kingdom with patience, perseverance, devotion, and selflessness. This wealth of experience and spiritual training now qualifies him to unify the disciples and guide them toward the essence of Sufi education: seeking the Face of God, renouncing selfishness, and striving for a life rooted in serenity, love, and mercy.

A Lesson in Serenity and Discipline

The Fortieth Night embodied serenity and discipline, where love, compassion, and selflessness prevailed, in the tradition of the great sheikhs of the path—may God have mercy upon them.

This demonstrated that Boutchichiyya education goes beyond recitations and litanies: it is a holistic school that shapes human beings through purification and upright conduct.

National and Global Reach

The event extended beyond its inner spiritual dimension to reflect the Zawiya’s openness to both its national and international environment.

Present were intellectuals, scholars, and diverse professionals from Morocco and abroad, alongside Europeans who embraced Islam or discovered Moroccan Sufism. They found in the Boutchichiyya a unifying discourse that combines the purity of monotheism with the expansiveness of human connection.

They expressed gratitude to the land of Morocco, which, like fertile soil, continually produces saints. They also praised the nation’s spiritual leadership under His Majesty King Mohammed VI—may God assist him—Commander of the Faithful, who has established a religious framework rooted in security, serenity, moderation, and mutual understanding among peoples, religions, and nations.

A Comprehensive National Spiritual Event

The Fortieth Night in Madagh affirmed that the Qadiriyya Boutchichiyya Zawiya continues to play a vital role in Morocco’s spiritual and religious life, through loyalty to its authentic mission of education and purification, and through the renewal of the spirit of community under the leadership of its new sheikh, in harmony with the religious and national constants of the Kingdom.

The occasion became a message of loyalty and renewal, reflecting that authentic Moroccan Sufism remains a source of serenity and a wellspring of universal values that strengthen peace and coexistence among peoples.
