His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein visited Washington at a critical time, both politically and economically. The region faces multiple challenges, while Jordan is working to strengthen its stability through major projects and a comprehensive modernization plan. The meetings he held with members of the U.S. Congress were not merely formal visits—they provided an opportunity to present Jordan’s economic priorities and build stronger partnerships with the United States.
A key priority highlighted by the Crown Prince was the National Water Carrier Project, which will bring desalinated water from Aqaba to Amman. This project is vital given Jordan’s severe water shortages. It is expected to supply around 300 million cubic meters of water annually, supporting food security, industrial growth, and urban expansion. However, the project is costly and will require smart financing solutions and the use of renewable energy to reduce operational costs.
The Crown Prince also emphasized the importance of digital transformation. Technology and artificial intelligence can enhance health, education, and government services. With its young and educated population, Jordan has the potential to become a regional hub for start-ups. To achieve this, the country must invest in skill development, create flexible regulations, and encourage funding for innovative ideas that can be transformed into exportable products and services.
Trade with the United States was another major focus. Jordan already has bilateral agreements, but there is room to maximize their benefits. Sectors such as pharmaceuticals, digital services, and food products can compete in the U.S. market. Expanding this trade partnership will link Jordan to global supply chains, create new jobs, and diversify sources of income.
These meetings underscored that politics and economics are closely linked. Securing the support of U.S. policymakers can help Jordan access financing on favorable terms and attract additional investment. At the same time, presenting a clear and forward-looking economic plan strengthens Jordan’s image as a reliable partner capable of turning challenges into opportunities.
In conclusion, the Crown Prince’s meetings in Washington focused on three core areas: water security, digital transformation, and trade. These are not just ideas—they are foundational elements for Jordan’s economic future. With international support and strong partnerships, the outcomes of these meetings could mark a significant step toward a stronger and more resilient Jordanian economy.
