Ammon News - The meat market ended the summer season with a decline in demand of around 40% compared to previous years, despite relative activity due to the return of expatriates and the holding of weddings, festivals and graduation celebrations, according to the head of the Livestock Breeders Association, Zaal Al Kawalit.
Al Kawalit explained that demand during the peak season -July and August- ranged between 50–60%, which is lower than what markets were accustomed to in previous seasons.
He attributed this decline to weak purchasing power, high consumer debt, and the absence of tourists as a result of the aggression on Gaza and the cancellation of tourist bookings.
Prices are currently experiencing a slight decline, with the price of small local sheep ranging between JD10 and JD11 per kilogram, compared to JD8.5 – JD9 for large sheep. while imported lamb, especially Romanian lamb, sells for between JD7.5 and JD8 per kilogram for large lambs and around JD9 dinars for small lambs, he pointed.
