Ammon News - Saudi Arabia and France will co-chair meetings at the UN General Assembly summit beginning Monday on a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Saudi Arabia and France will co-chair meetings from Monday on the Israeli and Palestinian two-state solution, which aims to see both sides existing alongside one another in peace, according to AFP.
Jordan is participating in the conference, as the Palestinian issue has always been a priority for His Majesty King Abdullah II and Jordanian officials. Jordan emphasises in all Arab and international forums the centrality of the Palestinian issue and the importance of launching a genuine and effective political effort that will lead to the implementation of the two-state solution.
Jordan stresses that peace in the region can only be achieved through a just solution based on relevant United Nations resolutions, foremost among them resolutions 242 and 338.
This meeting is expected to see the formal recognition of a Palestinian state by several countries after the overwhelming adoption last week by the General Assembly of a text supporting a future Palestinian state – albeit without Hamas.
The French presidency said Friday that 10 countries would formally recognise Palestinian statehood at the meeting – Andorra, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Luxembourg, Portugal, Malta, the UK and San Marino alongside France.
