Ammon News - Jordan was elected on Friday, by acclamation, as a member of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for a two-year term (2025-2027), during the General Conference of the Agency currently being held in Vienna.

The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Fouad Majali, said that the Kingdom's election to the Board of Governors reflects its high international standing and underscores the international community's great confidence in its ability to contribute effectively to strengthening the nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation system.

Majali reiterated the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to supporting the work of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and to continuing cooperation with international partners to ensure full compliance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, emphasizing the need to work towards universal adherence to the treaty, particularly in the Middle East, by establishing a nuclear-weapon-free zone and ensuring that all nuclear facilities in the region are subject to the IAEA's comprehensive safeguards system.
