GAM launches art project at Al Hussein Parks’ Historical Passage

03-09-2025 03:09 PM

Ammon News - The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) on Tuesday launched the final phase of the Historical Passage art project in Al Hussein Parks.

The project's inauguration, attended by HRH Princess Wijdan Al Hashemi and Amman Mayor Yousef Shawarbeh, features a 550-meter mural that visually guides visitors through the region’s civilizations extending from the Stone Age to the Copper, Bronze, and Iron Ages, and highlights Roman and Nabataean heritage.

The Historical Passage was developed in multiple phases, as the first (2001–2009) featured murals depicting Jordan’s history up to the modern era.

Meanwhile, the second (2019–2024) focused on the closing square, designed to showcase Jordan’s role in promoting peace regionally and globally.

According to a GAM statement, the passage highlights Jordan’s participation in UN peacekeeping missions, the sacrifices of its soldiers, and the message of peace it carries.

The final square covers 1,550 square meters and includes 12 artistic panels featuring the achievements of the Jordan Armed Forces–Arab Army and Jordan’s peacekeeping contributions.

The murals also document accomplishments under His Majesty King Abdullah II in fields, mainly economy, healthcare, education, sports, and humanitarian and social development, represented in steel artworks measuring 125 x 125 cm.

The passage, ending in a square designed for national events and official ceremonies, is open to the public daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., except on Tuesdays when Al Hussein Parks are closed. Petra
