Ammon News - White House envoy Steve Witkoff is expected to travel to Israel on Thursday to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, two U.S. officials with direct knowledge tell Axios.

Why it matters: This is Witkoff's first trip to Israel in almost three months and it comes amid a stalemate in the Gaza ceasefire and hostage talks and the catastrophic humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Witkoff may also travel to Gaza and visit the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) aid centers, a U.S. official said.

Witkoff's trip to Israel comes after he and Secretary of State Rubio met earlier this week in Miami and Washington with Netanyahu's advisers Ron Dermer and Tzachi Hanegbi.

What they're saying: "The president wants to know more about what the humanitarian situation in Gaza is in order to know how to get more assistance to civilians in Gaza," one U.S. official said.

Witkoff is also expected to discuss with Netanyahu the broader policy in Gaza and how to break the logjam in negotiations for a ceasefire and hostage deal, officials say. Axios
