Licensed building area rises 20.6% in first 5 months of 2025

Ammon News - The total licensed building area in Jordan reached 3.983 million square meters during the first five months of 2025, up by 20.6 percent compared to 3.303 million square meters in the same period last year, according to the Department of Statistics' monthly report issued Thursday.

The total number of building permits issued rose to 9,585, marking a 10 percent increase from 8,714 permits during the same period in 2024.

Residential building permits accounted for 2.981 million square meters, up 12.6 percent from 2.647 million square meters last year. Non-residential building permits totaled around 1.002 million square meters, a sharp increase of 52.7 percent compared to approximately 656,000 square meters in the same period of 2024.

Residential buildings made up 74.9 percent of the total licensed area, while non-residential buildings accounted for 25.1 percent.

Regionally, the Central Region dominated with 72.2 percent of total licensed building area, up by 4.9 percent. The Northern Region accounted for 19.2 percent, down 15.4 percent, while the Southern Region represented 8.6 percent, with a 1.2 percent rise.

In terms of per capita licensed residential space, the capital Amman recorded the highest share at 13 percent, with 0.338 square meters per person. Mafraq registered the lowest, with 3.4 percent and 0.086 square meters per person.

New constructions and additions to existing buildings constituted 65.4 percent of the total licensed area, totaling around 2.606 million square meters, compared to 2.153 million square meters in the same period last year an increase of 21 percent. Petra
