Ammon News - Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Ahmad Safadi said on Monday that Jordan’s national fabric remains strong and unified, with Muslim and Christian citizens collectively safeguarding the country’s heritage, achievements, and social cohesion. He emphasized that Jordanians are bound by values of love and tolerance and are partners in building and development.
Safadi made his remarks during a meeting at the Lower House of Parliament with the Vatican Ambassador to Jordan, Archbishop Giovanni Pietro Dal Toso, where discussions focused on regional developments and shared concerns, particularly the ongoing war on Gaza and the preservation of Jerusalem’s holy sites.
Safadi reiterated Jordan’s unwavering commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, to defending the legitimate Palestinian cause, working to halt the war on the Gaza Strip, and ensuring the delivery of urgent humanitarian assistance to its residents.
He highlighted Jordan’s pride in the Hashemite Custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, underscoring its vital role in preserving the city’s identity and protecting its legal and historical status quo amid ongoing challenges.
Safadi also pointed out that His Majesty the King has consistently opposed any attempts to displace Christians from the region and rejected all pressures to displace Palestinians in Gaza, reflecting the deep sentiments and conscience of the Jordanian people.
He noted that His Majesty continues to pursue diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a just and comprehensive settlement that guarantees the full rights of the Palestinian people, based on the two-state solution.
For his part, Ambassador Dal Toso commended His Majesty King Abdullah II’s role as the Hashemite Custodian of Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites, describing it as a significant responsibility that safeguards the city’s spiritual and cultural heritage and preserves its diverse social fabric.
He acknowledged the international recognition of Jordan’s positive and constructive role in fostering peace and understanding in the region, emphasizing the Holy See’s appreciation for His Majesty’s continued advocacy for peace and humanitarian principles.
Dal Toso stressed the urgent need to deliver essential aid to Gaza’s residents and praised Jordan’s significant humanitarian contributions in providing relief assistance to those affected by the crisis. Petra
