Syria wildfires contained after 10 days

14-07-2025 10:11 AM

Ammon News - The Latakia wildfires in northwest Syria began on July 3, 2025 amid an intense regional heatwave and severe drought

The blaze first broke out near the Turkish border in forested areas such as Qastal Ma'af and Jabal Turkman.

By July 5, the fires expanded significantly, scorching over 10,000 hectares and prompting evacuations across several rural communities.

Over the subsequent days, the situation worsened due to rugged terrain, strong winds, and the presence of unexploded ordnance.

The blaze burned continuously for around 10 days, with containment not achieved until July 13.

Countries have contributed to helping extinguish the fires, most notably Jordan, Turkey, and Lebanon.
