Ammon News - Jordan handed over the public encryption keys for its e-passport to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) at a special ceremony held at the organization's headquarters in Montreal, Canada.
In a press release, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship said: " In continuation of national efforts to complete the e-passport project, Jordanian Ambassador to Canada, Sabah Al Rafie, represented the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan during the ceremony to hand over the Issuing Authority Certification Certificate (CSCA) for the Jordanian e-passport to the Electronic Certification Centre of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)."
The ceremony was also attended by Sylvain Levoire, Deputy Director of Aviation Security and Facilitation at the Organization, and a number of employees at the Electronic Certification Centre.
On this occasion, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Sami Smeirat affirmed that uploading the certificate to the organization's servers will enable its use by member states of the Public Key Directory (PKD) to verify e-passports, enhance automated and direct verification of the authenticity of e-passports, and facilitate transit procedures for their holders through the border crossings of countries participating in the PKD.
This step reflects the government's commitment to promoting digital transformation and providing digital government services in accordance with the highest international standards, the Minister added.
It is worth noting that Jordan, represented by the Ministry of Interior, officially joined the ICAO Public Key Directory in 2025.
