Ammon News - The U.S. Embassy in Jordan announced Sunday, that Peter Shih has assumed his duties as Chargé d'Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Jordan, succeeding Chargé d’Affaires Rohit Nepal.
In a June 29 handover ceremony at U.S. Embassy Amman, Chargé d’Affaires Rohit Nepal signed over leadership responsibilities to newly arrived Chargé d’Affaires Peter Shea.
Mr. Nepal has completed his three-year tour in Jordan and will be heading to Washington D.C. for his next assignment.
A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Peter was most recently a Senior Advisor in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs (NEA). He also deployed on three occasions as Acting Deputy Chief of Mission in Beirut, Lebanon.
In previous roles, Peter served as Deputy Principal Officer at U.S. Consulate General Istanbul and Deputy Political Counselor in Amman. His other overseas assignments included tours in Cairo, Baghdad, and Moscow. While based in Washington, he directed NEA’s Office of Iraq Affairs and earlier coordinated NATO-Afghanistan operations.
Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Peter was a senior national security consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton. He holds an MA from Georgetown University and a BA from The American University. Peter was born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts and is joined in Amman by his wife and three children.
