Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi on Tuesday welcomed the ceasefire between Iran and Israel that US President Donald Trump has announced and valued all political efforts that produced it.
In a post on his official X account, Safadi said: "The ceasefire must hold. That is essential for saving the region from the horrific consequences of further escalation. We urge a return to negotiations to find a political solution to the nuclear file."
The Minister noted that the region is still far from the comprehensive calm and the just peace it deserves. The Israel aggression on Gaza rages on. Gazans are suffering the brutality of Israel’s war and an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
"Gaza must not be forgotten. The dangerous Israeli illegal measures in the West Bank that fuel conflict and undermine prospects for peace should be stopped. An exchange deal that leads to a permanent ceasefire and the lifting of all Israeli obstacles to the delivery of sufficient aid to Gaza through relevant UN agencies is the priority that needs a concerted and coordinated regional and international effort to achieve," Safadi added.
He concluded by saying: "An irreversible path to implement the two-state solution is the only path to the comprehensive, just and lasting peace that guarantees the security of all. An effective collective effort to create a genuine political horizon for implementing the two-state solution has to be launched. Hope must be restored. The region will continue to suffer from tension and instability unless the root cause of conflict is solved. The Arab Peace initiative remains on the table to ensure a future of peace, security and cooperation for the whole region."
