IACC refers 46 corruption cases involving municipal officials to judiciary

24-06-2025 11:38 AM

Ammon News - The Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (IACC) has referred 46 corruption cases involving mayors and members of municipal councils across the Kingdom to the judiciary for legal action during the first half of 2025.

A senior official at the Commission revealed that 24 of these cases were transferred to the courts in 2025, while an additional 22 cases were carried over from 2024.

According to the official, a total of 93 municipal employees were found to have committed criminal offenses in 2025, including felonies such as embezzlement, forgery, use of forged documents, and abuse of public office all classified as either criminal or misdemeanor offenses.

Charges also included misuse of authority, dereliction of duty, and the squandering of public funds. In 2024, 43 individuals were implicated in similar offenses.

Preliminary estimates place the financial damage caused by these violations in the millions of dinars.

Despite close monitoring by oversight and law enforcement agencies, these offenses were still committed a concerning indication, the source noted, of a persistent failure among municipal leadership to uphold national integrity standards, particularly the principle of the rule of law, which is central to good governance.

The source added that the growing number of violations in municipalities poses a threat to public funds and the quality of public services. Over 65 percent of the cases currently under investigation by the IACC involve municipalities particularly larger ones.
