Ammon News - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, affirmed Tuesday the stability and security of the Kingdom’s electricity system, despite the interruption in natural gas supplies caused by the ongoing regional escalation.

Speaking during a meeting with members of the Energy Sector Partnership Council to discuss regulations under General Electricity Law No. (10) of 2025, Kharabsheh said Jordan has implemented alternative measures to ensure a continued and sustainable electricity supply, noting the significant role played by local energy sources in supporting the national grid.

He noted that Jordan currently imports around 100 million cubic feet of natural gas daily from Egypt, and that the government is incurring additional costs due to the crisis. He added that the Kingdom is strengthening its stock of diesel and other petroleum derivatives from various suppliers to support electricity production.

Kharabsheh stressed that power plants are equipped to switch to alternative fuels, ensuring the continuity and efficiency of electricity generation. He also underlined that the Ministry is closely monitoring regional developments and coordinating with all relevant authorities to safeguard electricity supply to all citizens and economic sectors.

During the meeting, the Minister and the council discussed the draft regulations and 14 instructions stemming from General Electricity Law No. (10) of 2025, including measures to enhance energy storage systems for consumers to support electricity supply security.

The Council urged members to submit their feedback on the draft regulations and instructions to the Ministry as part of the legal process required for their approval.
