Three Years of Russia’s Full-Scale Invasion: Ukraine’s Fight Continues

24-02-2025 08:29 AM

Ammon News - The Ukrainian Embassy in Jordan said on the occasion of the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine that Russia has not yet been able to achieve its goal to eliminate the Ukrainian state, destroy its sovereignty, and erase its national and cultural identity, due to the heroic fight of the Ukrainian people.

Below is the full statement of the Ukrainian Embassy on this occasion:

February 24, 2025, marks three years since Russia launched its illegal, unprovoked, and neo-imperialist full-scale military invasion of Ukraine. Due to the heroic fight of the Ukrainian people, the Russian aggressor has not yet been able to achieve its goal—to eliminate the Ukrainian state, destroy its sovereignty, and erase its national and cultural identity.

Despite having a significantly smaller population and territory compared to the aggressor, Ukraine has successfully liberated 40% of the territory temporarily occupied by Russia since February 24, 2022. It has managed to stabilize the front in several areas and, in some parts, even launch counteroffensives. The war has also reached Russian territory. Ukraine’s operations in Kursk and other regions have demonstrated that Putin lacks the strength to withstand real pressure.

Despite all Russia’s efforts and the immense number of troops it has thrown into battle, it has failed to achieve any significant advances. The defense forces of Ukraine continue to hold the line, repelling the aggressor. Meanwhile, Russian propaganda desperately tries to fabricate an image of success, celebrating the capture of every barn wall in yet another Ukrainian village.

Contrary to the triumphant facade presented by Russian propaganda, Russia is paying a high price for its criminal actions. Since the beginning of the full-scale aggression, Russia has suffered irreplaceable losses amounting to 859,920 soldiers. The Russian economy is stagnating. According to the IMF, Russia’s GDP growth is projected to slow to 1.3% in 2025, down from an estimated 3.6% in 2024. Structural imbalances are worsening. High war expenditures are driving inflation, which reached 9.5% in December 2024, with no signs of slowing. The Russian population is struggling with shortages and rising prices of essential food products (milk, dairy, eggs, meat, fish), while businesses are increasingly dissatisfied with the Central Bank of Russia’s exchange rate policies. The labor market is tightening as civilians abandon regular industries in favor of military service, lured by higher wages. The liquid assets of the Russian National Wealth Fund have dropped by 34% since the invasion began. All of Russia’s hard-currency reserves (in euros, pounds, yen) have been depleted, while $305 billion in the Central Bank’s reserves remain frozen in Western countries, with profits from them being used to finance aid for Ukraine.

Nevertheless, Putin has no appetite for peace. The enormous loss of Russian lives on the battlefield has not deterred him from pursuing his destructive ambitions. He has tasted blood and sees no reason to halt the aggression. Every so-called "peace proposal" he puts forward is nothing more than an excuse to continue the war.

Recently, Russia has resorted to new major escalatory moves. First, it involved North Korean troops in the war, internationalizing the conflict and expanding it beyond the borders of Ukraine and Russia. Second, Russia deployed an intermediate-range ballistic missile against Ukraine. Third, on February 14, 2025, a Russian drone carrying a high-explosive warhead struck the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, damaging the protective shell of the New Safe Confinement and putting millions of people at risk of radiation exposure.
Russia continues its terror against peaceful civilians. On the night of February 23, Russia launched 267 attack drones against Ukraine—the largest drone assault since Iranian drones began targeting Ukrainian cities and villages. Over the past week alone, Russia has deployed nearly 1,150 attack UAVs, more than 1,400 guided aerial bombs, and 35 missiles of various types against Ukraine. Despite these relentless assaults, Ukraine continues to fight and successfully repels every attack.

At this crucial moment, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasizes the importance of global unity: "Now, on the eve of the third anniversary of the full-scale war, it is vital for all Ukrainians that the world stands with us. The world must be in a strong position, guided by the fundamental goals and principles of the UN Charter—sovereignty of nations, territorial integrity of every state, and protection of every nation from aggression. Justice must not be an empty word, and this is essential for every people."

While Russian propaganda tries to portray Ukraine as being in a deadlock, global industry and international partners see a different reality. Large defense companies, such as Rheinmetall, are opening factories in Ukraine—an undeniable sign of long-term investor confidence. Denmark has financed the production of Ukrainian "Bohdana" howitzers, Lithuania has funded the development of long-range weapons, and Canada, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland have followed Denmark’s model. The Danish initiative has already proven its effectiveness, delivering €588 million worth of weaponry to Ukraine in 2024. A joint venture between KMW (KNDS Deutschland) and a Ukrainian defense company has also been officially launched in Ukraine. The country is rapidly transforming into a technological hub for modern weapons, setting new industry standards and serving not only its own defense needs but also those of the broader region.

The United Kingdom remains one of Ukraine’s most steadfast allies, providing advanced weaponry, critical military training, and substantial financial support. British initiatives have significantly strengthened Ukraine’s defensive capabilities, reinforcing its ability to resist Russian aggression. The European Union and European countries, too, have played an essential role, offering financial, military, and humanitarian assistance while maintaining pressure on Russia through sanctions and diplomatic measures.

Despite the devastating war on its territory, Ukraine continues to be one of the world's key guarantors of food security. It supplies agricultural products to over 100 countries, feeding more than 400 million people. In the medium term, Ukraine has the capacity to double its agricultural exports, potentially providing food for up to 600 million people worldwide.

Ukraine has also been actively engaged in global stability efforts. "We are now taking entirely concrete actions to ensure that discussions about Ukraine and all of Europe happen with Ukraine and Europe at the table. Security guarantees are what unite the absolute majority—Europe, America, and all our partners worldwide. Everyone needs a shared understanding of how to guarantee that Putin can no longer deceive anyone, and that Russia can no longer bring death to other nations—from Ukraine and Europe to Syria, the Middle East, and Africa."

Ukraine remains deeply grateful to its allies for their unwavering support. We sincerely thank the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union and European countries, Canada, Australia, Japan, and all partners worldwide for their steadfast support and assistance. This fight is not just for Ukraine but for the principles of international law and global security. Together, we stand for freedom, justice, and the defense of a peaceful future for all nations.

Let us not turn away. Let us remember our values and, together, build a future founded on peace and justice.
