Emergency summit possibly postponed, Arab League says

Ammon News - Assistant Secretary General of the Arab League Hussam Zaki announced late Sunday that the emergency Arab Summit, scheduled on February 27, might possibly be postponed due to logistic reasons and prior commitments of several Arab leaders.

Speaking to the press, Zaki affirmed that the postponement was purely for logistical reasons, affirming that the grand event was meant to draw a unified stance on the Palestinian cause especially with the US administration and Israeli occupation threats to forcibly displace Palestinians from their lands.

He indicated that the Egyptian proposal to rebuild the Gaza Strip via the efforts of the Palestinian people was the main focus of the proposed emergency summit without any intention to displace Palestinians.

In regards to the five-party Arab summit in Riyadh gathering Egypt, Jordan, Saudi, the UAE, and Qatar prior to the emergency, Zaki revealed that members continued to coordinate since the war on Gaza began via meetings the foreign ministers level and other related agencies.

He indicated that the Arab League was not invited to attend any of the meetings of the five-party summit, but it was informed on serious developments.

Zaki said that Palestine might be invited to the five-party summit to agree on a general frame of Arab stance on this important issue.

On the Arab stance regarding US President Donald Trump plans for the Gaza Strip, he affirmed that when official talks with the US begins on the issue, the Arab countries would base such talks on respecting the willing and desires of the Palestinian people.
