Ammon News - Captain Haitham Misto, Chief Commissioner of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC), said that the commission is studying a new request from another Jordanian airline to operate flights to Damascus International Airport, after Royal Jordanian Airlines was previously allowed to operate flights.

There are many requirements and standards that must be adhered to by the airline submitting the request to operate flights to Syria, Misto added.

Misto explained that the standards revolve around public safety, such as risk assessment, and the availability of baggage screening and inspection devices for the Jordanian airline that wants to operate its flights to Damascus International Airport, noting that the request submitted will be decided upon soon by the authority.

Misto also pointed out that the CARC conducted a comprehensive assessment of Damascus International Airport before taking the decision to operate flights to it, in addition to conducting an assessment of Syrian airspace and the extent to which this would affect aviation safety.

In this context, Misto expected an increase in demand for flights between Jordan and Syria in the coming period.

Royal Jordanian Airlines announced the resumption of its flights to the Syrian capital, Damascus, starting from January 31, 2025.
