Ammon News - Food prices in Jordan surged by 1.2% and 2.6% over the past two months, respectively, while the Department of Statistics (DoS) recorded a rise in consumer prices (inflation) at the end of 2024.
The price index in Jordan, according to a report by the World Bank, recorded a slight decline of 0.7% in October, after rising "very slightly" by 0.1% in September.
The prices rose by 2.8% in August, 2.6% in July, 2% in June, and 2.1% in May.
A report by the Department of Statistics showed that the general consumer price index (inflation) increased by 1.56% during 2024 compared to 2023.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices for December recorded an increase of 1.77% compared to the corresponding month in 2023. Accordingly, the index for 2024 amounted to 110.71 compared to 109.02 for 2023.
The World Bank report, according to Al-Mamlaka channel, indicated that the Jordanian and Egyptian Ministers of Agriculture chaired the 7th session of the Joint Agricultural Technical Committee meeting, as the two countries are committed to increasing agricultural cooperation and the exchange of agricultural products by removing obstacles, encouraging investments, and private sector participation to meet their needs in the field of food security.
Globally, domestic food price inflation remains high in many low- and middle-income countries.
