Ammon News - European Commissioner for Preparedness, Crisis Management and Equality Hadja Lahbib, praised the European Union’s relationship with Jordan, saying that the it will strengthen and increase its partnership with Jordan by signing a comprehensive strategic partnership at the end of this month.
Lahbib stressed that Jordan is a vital ally in the region and a real friend of the European Union, a stable country and a bridge-builder, adding that during her visit to Jordan she met with a number of officials, headed by His Majesty King Abdullah II, who showed a comprehensive and great commitment to delivering aid to Gaza and Syria as well.
Lahbib praised Jordan's ability and generosity in receiving the huge number of refugees, adding, "We know the price that Jordan pays for this generosity, so we are working to strengthen and increase our partnership with Jordan as an expression of our great gratitude for its efforts," according to Al-Mamlaka.
- Ceasefire -
Regarding the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel that came into effect, Lahbib said that the European Union had been calling for a ceasefire for months and for full access to aid to the Gaza Strip, where children are dying of hunger and cold.
After the ceasefire comes into effect, we want to see full access for humanitarian aid and it is important that aid trucks are not hindered from entering the Strip, and we want to see a complete cessation of fighting and a permanent ceasefire and we hope that war will not return again, she said.
Lahbib also called for political dialogue and a real vision for the future of the Palestinian people in addition to ensuring the security and safety of Israel.
- European support for Syria -
Regarding the Syrian file, the European Commissioner, who visited Syria last week, said that the European Union has always been present to support the Syrian people, as it recently provided a new humanitarian aid package worth 235 million euros to support Syrians in Syria and Syrians in neighboring countries.
