Ammon News - AMMAN Prince Ra'ad, Chief Chamberlain and president of the Higher Council for the Affairs of People with Disabilities (HCAPD), said His Majesty King Abdullah II pays due attention to people with disabilities (PWD) as an integral part of the Jordanian community.
The Prince, who spoke to a ceremony held on the occasion of Lions Day here, added the Kingdom has endorsed and ratified the International Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights and Dignity of Persons with Disabilities in a bid to protect PWDs from abuse, exploitation and mistreatment.
"The country played a crucial role in drafting this key document , which reflects its unwavering efforts in this regard," he pointed out.
The National Strategy for the Disabled 2007-2015, he affirmed, aims to safeguard PWDs' rights and to render their issue as a national priority.
The UN ambassador to Jordan Luc Stevens, meanwhile, highlighted the centrality of UN's role in backing peace and mutual existence as well as promoting development and human rights worldwide.
Our charity organization offers medical, social and cultural services to the local community, the disabled people and impoverished families, said Mayser Abu Jabber, chief of Lions Club in Jordan, to attendants.
