Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Ali Azzam - Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Walid Maani, said that the Ministry will grant 2,000 extra loans to university students, to reach a total of 22,000 loans and grants offered this year.
Maani told 'Ammon News' that the loans will be distributed based on priority and given equal portions in the same method they had been distributed in the past. He noted that in case not enough applicants are submitted, priorities will be granted to others in another district in the governorate, and then if extras are still available, they will be distributed to other governorates.
Maani noted that the decision to increase the number of loans came after more than 7,000 students submitted complaints and objections, which indicated that more students are in financial need. This, according to Maani, led the government to increase the availability of funds to alleviate financial burdens off students and their families.
Maani added that an independent committee has been formed to study the objections submitted by students. The committee will be separate and different than the committee which initially stipulated the results of grants and loans, in an effort to establish further transparency and legitimacy, Maani said.
