Khasawneh opens COVID-19 Al-Bashir Intensive Care Centre

Prime Minister Besher Khasawneh Monday inaugurated the 70-bed Al-Bashir Intensive Care Centre, which is designated for coronavirus patients.

During a tour of the center's sections, the premier, who was accompanied by Minister of Health Natheer Obeidat, was briefed by Al-Bashir Hospital Director Mahmoud Zureikat about the centre, which was fully equipped to treat COVID-19 cases.

Khasawneh stressed the importance of the centre, "which will be ready from today to receive coronavirus cases and strengthen the health system in the Kingdom, in a way that fulfills the vision and directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II in addressing the pandemic and increasing the clinical capacity, especially for cases that need intensive care."

He pointed out that, after the pandemic ends, the centre will help find solutions to overcrowding in Ministry of Health hospitals, mainly Al-Bashir, commending the efforts of health cadres in the Kingdom, as the first line of defence in addressing the Corona pandemic and protecting the citizens' health.

The Prime Minister stressed the role of the Royal Medical Services, university hospitals and private sector hospitals as a key partner of the health ministry in boosting the health system in the Kingdom.

He reiterated that the citizens’ commitment to virus prevention rules, including social distancing and wearing masks, is the only means currently available to prevent "this epidemic that is sweeping the countries of the world."

For his part, the health minister said that the new centre, which was supplied with ventilators, is ready to receive coronavirus patients who need intensive care.

Al-Bashir Hospital Director, Mahmoud Zureikat said that the centre is "a qualitative leap" as it became the largest intensive care facility in the Kingdom that is fully equipped to deal with patients who need intensive care, and that will ease the pressure on the hospital.

He also said that the next phase will see the opening of a specialized cardiovascular surgery ward in Al-Bashir Hospital that will provide quality service to patients.
