807 Covid-19 infections reported in Syrian refugee camps in Jordan

Ammon News - The number of Covid-19 infections among Syrian refugees in camps in Jordan has reached 807, according to the UN Refugee Agency, which indicated that 597 cases had recovered from the disease, while 209 patients are still receiving treatment.

According to a UNHCR report, only one coronavirus-related death has been reported in the Zaatari Refugee Camp in the northern-eastern Mafraq Governorate, while a total of 23,575 of tests have been conducted since the outbreak of the corona crisis in Jordan.

The agency said that 273 cases of Covid-19 had been recorded as of November 18 in the camp, of whom 169 had recovered and 103 cases were still under treatment, while the number of PCR tests conducted in the facility reached 9921.

In Azraq camp, east of Zarqa Governorate, 479 cases of the virus were recorded as of October 18, of whom 413 recovered, while the number of PCR tests conducted there has reached 10957, the UNHCR said.

The Jordanian-Emirati camp, east of Zarqa Governorate, has recorded 52 cases of Covid-19, of which 13 recovered while the remaining 39 cases are still under treatment, the agency said, adding that the number of PCR tests conducted in the camp reached 2,264.

The report said that more than 350 seasonal flu vaccines have been given to refugees in the Zaatari Camp for the most vulnerable cases in coordination with the Ministry of Health.

The agency also said that 40 beds have been allocated for coronavirus patients in Al-Mouwasat Hospital, run by Doctors Without Borders, in Marka, east of Amman.

Jordan, which hosts the second-highest number of refugees per capita of any country in the world, is home to 750,922 refugees, including 661,041 Syrians, according to the latest of the commission on October 15.
