Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The government's decision to raise prices and lift subsidies on fuel derivatives and propane gas is impending and expected to go into effect within days, sources told Ammon News.
The Council of Ministers discussed the price hikes measures during its session on Tuesday held at the Prime Ministry.
U.S. Ambassador to Jordan Stewart Jones reportedly visited the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday and met with Finance Minister Suleiman al-Hafez, who updated the ambassador on the proposed measures to deal with economic crisis afflicting the country, sources told Ammon News.
Meanwhile, various areas in Amman where protests are commonly held are witnessing increased security presence in preparation of possible protests and reactions by citizens to the impending decision to raise prices.
In the southern governorate of Karak, the Karak Youth and Popular pro-reform movement vowed to escalate their protests if the government endorses the price hike decision. In Madaba governorate, the Dhiban reform movement announced that protesters will assemble at the Dhiban roundabout to protest the decision.
