Press Syndicate to Appeal Controversial Press Law

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Jordan Press Association (JPA) board on Monday announced its intent to appeal the controversial 2012 Print and Publications Law passed last month at the Supreme Court, noting that it delegated the syndicate's legal advisor to study the case.

In its session on Monday headed by JPA President Tareq Momani, the board discussed the implications of the law, and renewed its rejection of the law which it considers restricting to media freedoms, particularly online news websites.

JPA stressed its rejection of any legislation aimed at restricting the media from practicing its oversight role.

The board delegated JPA's legal advisor to consider presenting the appeal to the Supreme Court and present a legal clarification of the procedure to the board in its next session.
