AMMONNEWS – As part of its programs targeted at supporting Jordanian sportsmanship and elevating its performance, Umniah announced the signing of an agreement with the Jordanian Basketball Federation. By virtue of the agreement, Umniah is sponsoring the Jordanian Basketball Cup that was held starting from the 18th of January 2011. The agreement was signed by Mr. Ihab Hinnawi, CEO of Umniah, and Mr. Hilal Barakat, President of the Federation, at the Federation’s main headquarters.

Umniah’s sponsorship of this local championship stems from the company’s continuous commitment to providing financial support and encouragement to sports in general and basketball in particular. Six teams will be participating in the championship including Al Riyadi Club, Al Ashrafeyeh Club, Arena Club, Applied Science University Club, Orthodox Club and the Kufr Yuba Club.

Commenting on this step, Mr. Hinnawi said: “We are pleased to be sponsoring this local competition in a manner that reflects our true dedication to sports and youth, confirming our belief in the important role that sports play in honing the identities and personalities of young people in our community and effectively building a healthy society. We hope to have contributed to supporting Jordanian basketball talent and to have developed a sense of competition which will play an important role in building a successful future generation.”

In turn, Mr. Barakat expressed his pleasure to be signing this sponsorship agreement with Umniah, commending their responsible role towards society, sports and Jordanian youth. He also praised their efforts towards achieving socioeconomic development.

It is worth mentioning that the Jordanian Basketball Cup is held once every year and is open to all clubs to compete under the umbrella of the Federation. The championship is considered a stepping stone for teams to participate in the upcoming Jordan Basketball League.
